Autumn 2 Week 3 Blog

Poppy Day

On 11th November, the children found out about why we wear poppies. They were incredibly thoughtful and grown up when talking about how soldiers fought for our freedom. We linked this to our Superhero topic and RESPECT Code, deciding that the soldiers must have shown huge amounts of courage, compassion and togetherness. The children worked hard to create poppies and writing which look superb displayed on our windows.

Anti-Bullying and Odd Socks Day

As part of our learning about Anti- Bullying we read two stories 'The Rainbow Club' and 'Something else'. We talked about how we are all special and that everyone should be treated with kindness and respect. The children designed their own pair of odd socks and talked about ways in which we could show kindness towards others. We also looked at our child friendly Anti Bullying policy and discussed what bullying is and what we can do if we feel like we are being bullied.

World Nursery Rhyme Week!

We have had a great week learning, practising and performing our five focus nursery rhymes. It has been wonderful to watch the children grow in confidence and fluency as the week has progressed.

Healthy Heroes!

This week, the children have also been thinking carefully about ways to stay healthy, from eating the right foods to exercising to (most importantly of all!) getting plenty of sleep! They LOVED making their Superhero Smoothies – yum! In line with the new EYFS Framework, we have also been focusing on Oral Health: discussing the importance of brushing properly twice a day, as well as consuming healthy foods and drinks that don’t damage our teeth – not too much sugar! We have been really impressed on how much the children have understood and explained, and hope that these healthy attitudes are reflected at home.

Children in Need

Today, the children found out about Children in Need and Pudsey Bear through a PowerPoint and story. We talked about how the money we have raised will help lots of children who are less fortunate. The children loved making their very own Pudsey ears!

And finally…Christmas is coming!

After spending the last couple of weeks learning the songs, this week we have started rehearsals for our Christmas play, even going on the stage for the first time today! There’s a lot of work still to do, but it’s so lovely to see the children performing and celebrating this wonderful time of year together J

Have a fab weekend!
