Reception Blog Autumn 2 Week 1

Wow! Reception are on fire! We cannot believe how brilliantly all the children have come back to school after the holiday.

Children used their imagination and language skills to write some fantastic firework poems in groups. Following this, we have practised all the sounds we have learnt so far, with many children remembering lots of them. Please keep practising at home when you can, as well as our new sounds f and e.

In Maths, it’s all about the number 2! We have talked a lot about pairs – perhaps the children could help to sort the socks into pairs for you?! We also learnt about 2p, the 2-sided shape a semi-circle and made 2:2 patterns. They might also like to watch the Numberblocks programs that we have watched in school: Another One, Two and Pattern Palace.

Our focus story this week is The Creation Story. The children listened to the story from our Children’s Bible and also watched an animated version. They have really enjoyed this story and have used it in their play such as when playing with the minibeasts and in our writing area. If you haven’t yet, please look on Tapestry for their retelling of the story in groups – they loved watching themselves back on the iPad! We also incorporated some Art and each child created a collage of something important from the story. Many children really took their time over this and we think they did amazingly well! In PE, the children acted out the story as I told it, moved around the hall like lots of different animals and raced in animal relays!

This week, the children have been enjoying their hot lunches in take away boxes and trying hard to use their knives and forks. The meals have gone down brilliantly with the children and all the grown ups have been feeling very jealous and very hungry at lunchtimes!

Today we read our focus story for next week…Superworm! We can’t wait!

Remember to look in the Homework tab for the current home learning activity and this week’s sound sheets.

Have a great weekend. Stay safe.
