WOW, WOW, WOW, we are so amazed at how well the children have settled back into school and into their new classes and routines. Your children are truly amazing and we are so proud of them.
This week we have been learning about our new routines and talking about ‘Superheroes’. We have been thinking about our local superheroes such as delivery people, nurses, shop workers and about what people have been doing to help others during the Coronavirus Pandemic. The children are really aware that they can’t hug their friends and they have been brilliant at keeping some distance between each other. To help the children learn about what they can do to show their friends they still cared about them we watched ‘While we Can’t Hug’ and the children talked about what they were going to do.

The children then drew pictures for their friends in the opposite classes to show them that we missed them and we still cared about each other. We laminated these, cleaned them and then gave them out to the children in the opposite classes. They really loved creating a picture for a friend and receiving one.
We have also looked at lots of photos of the activities the children were doing during lockdown and we have displayed these around the classrooms. The children created a heart and drew pictures of their favourite activities they did at home. Bike riding and rock hunting were some of the favourites alongside clapping for carers, making rainbows and playing in the paddling pool! I think we were very fortunate with the weather.
The children have all created their own Superhero and given them special powers to help beat Coronavirus. They have also been really good at washing their hands and know this is one of the ways to help keep us safe. We also linked this to our classroom collective worship and the children really enjoyed singing along to this Lego themed Superhero song about Jesus.
We have also spent a lot of time talking about any concerns or worries the children may have. On Friday, they all watched the story below ‘Everybody Worries’ and made their own ‘Worry Buddy’.
We have also been recapping our sounds and our tricky words this week and will continue with our phonics and maths teaching next week. Our theme for the next two weeks will be based on the familiar book ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’.
We have also added some photos of your children during their first week back at school. We hope you enjoy looking at them.
For children not attending school, please continue to use the BBC bitesize, Oak National Academy lessons, Read Write Inc phonics, Numberblocks, White Rose Maths, Phonics Play, Sumdog, and any if the EYFS activities on Twinkl.
