Spring 2 Week 1 Blog

What a wonderful week J

We have had a super week in Reception, reading and learning from our focus book – Mr Wolf’s Pancakes. The children absolutely loved designing, making and tasting their very own pancakes – thank you Mrs Wilson for being THE best cook EVER! J  They listened to the story several times, answered questions about it, ordered and retold it, and looked at some of the tricky language used such as politely, drifted and rotten. After a demonstration by Mrs Letheren on how to create a story map using drawings and labels, they children made their own – the results are fantastic! Lots of children have already started making their own maps in our Writing Area, plus lists of ingredients, and we are loving this independent writing – keep going children!

On Wednesday, we went on our very first school trip – an expedition around Collingham! Despite the rather miserable weather, the children were incredibly excited, and showed resilience in the rainy and muddy conditions (sorry about their shoes!) After all, real explorers aren’t afraid of a bit of bad weather! Their behaviour was absolutely amazing – a passer-by commented “very impressive!” as we passed. We felt very proud indeed of our wonderful class.  J They also demonstrated some excellent map skills, following the route and finding specific building we passed such as the church and the Post Office.

World Book Day was another very exciting and fun day – what a week! The children all looked brilliant in their costumes and everyone was brave enough to stand up in front of the whole class and talk about their character. These speaking and listening skills are really crucial so a big well done to everyone for having a go. The character hunt around school was a big hit and the children loved searching for them and ticking them off on their list. We hope they are enjoying their new books from the sale at home.

Please remember that the collection for Ukrainian refugees is on Monday – please refer to the office email for details.

We hope you all have a restful weekend.
