Spring 2 Week 3 Blog

Looking into the past...

Wow! The children have absolutely amazed us during our learning about Collingham in the past this week. We looked at lots of old and new photographs of Collingham landmarks and roads, comparing the features and working out what the told us about how the village has changed over time. The children were absolutely fascinated! So were Mrs Swift and Mrs Letheren! Mrs Wilson's family has been in Collingham for a long time, and the children loved hearing about what the school was like when she was a child and finding out about Wilson's Garage. Thank you Mrs Wilson! When you're out and about around the village, try asking them if a building has moved or changed - we expect they'll be able to teach you something! :o)

We have also continued our learning in RE about the Spring festivals of Holi and Nowruz. We were so lucky to have Mrs Azimikorf to come and talk to us about the Iranian celebration - the children loved all the interesting things that she brought in to show them and Mrs Azimikorf was super impressed with their questions and thoughts. Thank you Mrs Azimikorf! Everyone enjoyed about the Hindu Festival of Colour 'Holi' which celebrates Spring and new beginnings through a lovely story and photos - splatter painting with Mrs Bolton was certainly a big hit!

Then, of course, we ended yet another busy week with Red Nose Day! We've had lots of fun telling jokes, dressing up and doing 'red nose and spoon' races! However, the children listened really carefully when I explained to them how our money helps those less fortunate in the UK and around the world, and impressed us once again with their empathetic and compassionate response.

Have a fantastic weekend and enjoy the sunshine...at last!
