Reception Blog – Summer 1 Week 6
Feeling hot, hot, hot!
We have had a fantastic couple of weeks in Reception! It has been great for the children to explore lots of our new equipment outdoor in the beautiful weather – the sandpit and water have been particularly big hits, as well as our shady shelters and mud kitchen!
The children have been doing really well with their new books in RWI and are starting to get used to the new activities we do – they particularly enjoy spotting and correcting mistakes in the ‘proofread’ activity.
They continue to ‘wow’ us in Maths - becoming whizzes at doubling and making brilliant links to sharing between two/ halving this week. Amazing!
This week, we have had an RE focus, listening to and retelling Bible stories, as well as one from another faith – Rama and Sita, Hinduism. They have made excellent links to our RESPECT Code during all this learning and had lots of fun retelling the Hindu story through drama!
Last week, we had the most AMAZING time on our trip to Skelton Grange. We hope you enjoyed looking at all the photos on Tapestry and we think Mr Cook’s message said it all – the children loved it, we loved it, Mr Cook loved it!
We hope you all have a wonderful half term holiday – enjoy the sunshine!

Summer 1 Week 4
Reception are on fire!
All we can say is...wow! So far this half term, the children have done SO much learning, SO much amazing play and made SO much progress!
Following on from looking after the chicks, we have continued to learn about other farm animals - making our very own information book. The children are growing much more confident when writing on their own during Big Writing and our daily RWI sessions - with many also writing independently in the areas of provision. We absolutely love this!
They have been absolutely on fire during our Maths as well - as many of you will have found out whilst doing their homework with them. They are confident with addition, doubling, finding odd and even numbers, finding money totals and even counting on when adding - a really tricky skill!
Last week, we focused on the King's Coronation and they children loved learning more about what our school was like in the past from the old logbook. We hope they impressed you with their knowledge of all the details in the Coronation such as the golden carriage, the coronation chair, the crown, orb and sceptre. Many told us that they had spotted them on the TV over the weekend!
This week, our learning has been based around one of our favourite stories - We're Going on a Bear Hunt! After lots of reading and dramatising the story, the children created, illustrated and performed their own versions - We're Going on a Chick Hunt! We are SO excited to continue this theme next week, culminating in our trip to Skelton Grange on Thursday!
Each term, sometimes half term, we change many of the areas of provision in the Reception classroom, encouraging new and exciting learning and play. This term, we have also been very fortunate to purchase lots of new and amazing resources for our classroom. Some of the areas and resources you might like to ask your child about are: the new bikes, the special Maths cupboard in the shelter, the vets, the ice cream parlour, the modelling/ craft area and the new road signs and bricks for outside...and there are still a lot more to come! :)
Have a fab weekend!
