Summer 1 Week 4 Blog

We’re going on a chick hunt!

This week, our focus story has been We’re going on a bear hunt. The children have loved joining in with the story, adding actions and watching the story read by its author, Michael Rosen. The children have independently been making bear hunt story maps in the writing area which we love! We have also been encouraging the children to create their own version of the story – We’re going on a chick hunt – and they have all created their own setting, complete with sound effect, for example, Uh oh! A farm. A noisy smelly farm. Moo moo moo!

We are having a really big focus on independent sentence writing at the moment. We celebrate any that the children do whilst in our provision and love seeing any that they have done at home. When we were talking about Individual Liberty, one of our British Values, and saying that we are free to be anything we want to be, lots of children have decided they want to be authors! Last week, the children wrote facts about a farm animal and of course, each week, they are continuing to write sentences during our phonics and Big Write sessions.

The children have been absolutely astounding us with their Maths over the last few weeks. They have been learning some really tricky skills – addition, doubling and subtraction. We have found that the children are incredibly enthusiastic and love to show us how well they can do, explaining their methods using brilliant vocabulary. Again, any extra practise of these skills at home or whilst you’re out and about will be really beneficial.

Reception class have been getting very crafty – we hope you’re enjoying all the box model creations that they’re bringing home! J They have also made their own chick slider, persevering with cutting and joining in order to make the chick pop out of an egg or hen house. They were so proud of them and wanted to show their friends – this was so lovely to see.

Everyone is super excited about our trip to Skelton Grange next week – roll on Thursday!

Have a fab weekend – let’s hope the sun shines!
