In Year 3 children concentrate on learning the 3, 4 and 8 times table. If necessary we recap previously taught times tables such as the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Children's progress is tracked through our weekly times table test every Wednesday morning and Sumdog.
To begin the Autumn term, for the first three weeks we will concentrate on ensuring your child is confident with the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. A variety of these times tables will be included in the times table test each week. Therefore, when your child is practising on a regular basis they should focus on all three of these times tables. Your child can use Sumdog to practice their times tables knowledge. I have also attached extra resources to this page that you can use with your child to practice their times tables, I hope you find them useful. After our first three times tables test we will move onto learning the 3, 4 and 8 times tables, I will update the webpage as a reminder. If your child is already feeling confident with the 2, 5 and 10 times tables they can begin to practice the 3, 4 and 8's.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Times table test every Wednesday morning. The first three weeks of the Autumn Term we will focus on recapping the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
At school, we’re using an engaging mathematical program called Sumdog. It uses games to encourage students, and automatically adapts to your child’s needs. To help with our mathematics learning, we’d like you to encourage your child to play a little Sumdog each week. As they play, Sumdog asks questions that are tailored to their individual learning. You can use the Sumdog website on your computer, or download the iPad or Android app. Research has shown that pupils who use Sumdog for 1 hour a week, can make up to three times more progress. Pupil’s progress is carefully tracked and teachers are able to set challenges that develop understanding of concepts being taught and provide practise activities that enable pupils to achieve targets. It is also an excellent assessment tool for pupils and parents as they can see the progress being made and the skills that are being achieved.
Join in and encourage your child, parents can also have a free Sumdog login. Just visit www.sumdog.com and click the Parents
link at the bottom right. This lets you keep in touch with your child’s effort, so you can give encouragement.
