We hope you all had a lovely half term - we have loved hearing all about what the children have been up to in their week off!
We have been blown away with how well year 1 have settled straight back into our routines and are ready to hit the ground running this half term! It is certainly going to be a busy one with all the lovely Christmas things that we have planned in addition to our new curriculum topic: ' There's no place like home'. This topic is all about the geography of our local area with a bit of local history about how Collingham high street has changed within living memory (the last 80-100 years). If anyone has any relatives that have lived in Collingham for a long time, and would like to come and talk to the children about how it has changed, please do get in touch! This would be a great opportunity for the children to develop their enquiry skill in understanding ways that we can find out about the past.
The children had an exciting visitor this week when a mysterious suitcase appeared in our classroom. Inside we found a bear, a map and a letter. The letter explained that travelling Ted was lost and didn't know where he was. He asked for the children's help to tell him all about where he was. The children used google earth, aerial photos and maps to find information about Collingham and decide if it was an urban or rural area. The children then recorded some messages for Travelling Ted - they came up with some FANTASTIC ideas and used lots of geographical vocabulary! Well done Year 1!
The children finished their week with a morning of music with Mrs Meek. The children really enjoyed playing different rhythm games, composing their own rhythms and playing some instruments.
We have been busy learning the songs for our nativity and we are sure you might get a few renditions at home - be warned they are very catchy!
Have a lovely weekend!
