It has been so lovely to welcome all the children back after the Easter holidays. We hope they have had a well-earned rest.
The children have come back raring to go and it is lovely to see them bounce in each morning with big smiles on their faces!
We have had a busy first week back in Year 1. The children wrote a recount of their holidays for their 'Big Write' this week and it was lovely to hear about what they had been up to. We were also very impressed by the quality of their writing. The children are trying really hard to include all their new skills and we have been particularly impressed by the variety of punctuation and adjectives that they have been using.
In maths, we have been re-capping counting in multiples of 2s,5s and 10s before we move on to our multiplication and division topic next week. The children have done really well with this and have enjoyed doing some practical games and activities to help them consolidate this.
In Science, the children have been learning to name the parts of the human body and exploring their senses.
On Thursday, the children were very excited to discover a dinosaur egg in the playground. We talked about what might be inside the egg and the children wrote some brilliant descriptions, using lots of adjectives, to describe what they thought the dinosaur would be like. The children had some fantastic ideas such as; 'I think it has strong, muscly legs' and 'It has razor sharp claws'. The next day, the children discovered that the egg had hatched and we saw a photo of the dinosaur that had hatched. We talked about how this was a strange discovery as dinosaurs are extinct. The children had lots of knowledge about dinosaurs already and we think they are going to really enjoy this topic!
