Week 2

It has been another busy week in year 1!

We have started our RWI phonic sessions this week. We start by re-capping the set 2 sounds from reception to ensure the children have a secure grasp of these. The children have worked really well in their groups to read their first RWI books - they enjoy taking it in turns to use the lolly stick to be 'the teacher'!

In Science, the children blew us away with their knowledge of different, everyday materials. They enjoyed sorting and matching the objects according to the material they were made from.

In history, we looked at how the toys they have played with have changed since they were a baby. We looked at a timeline and the children sequenced the toys on the timeline of their lives so far.

We also began our exciting DT topic for the half term! The children's task is to design and make an animal puppet for a puppet show. The children enjoyed evaluating existing products by watching some videos of puppet shows and exploring some hand puppets we have in our classroom. We thought about what would make a good puppet.

AB - It should fit on our hands.

TH - We will knit them.

HD - We could sew it.

HC - We could add extra bits like eyes and fluff for fur.

SC - It should look like an animal.

EZ - It should be neat so it doesn't rip.
