Wow, we can't believe that another week has flown by! The children are really settled into the routine of year 1 now and have had another brilliant week.
In maths, we have continued with our focus on place value in numbers up to 10. This week we have been counting forwards and backwards and finding one more and one less than a given number. The children have been really fluent at this so we even challenged them with some reasoning and problem solving questions to apply their skills.
In phonics, we have continued with our set 1 and 2 digraphs (ng nk ay and ee). The children completed their 'Big Write' descriptions of a picture and we were blown away by some of the fantastic describing words that they used.
In science we have started our unit on 'materials'. The children enjoyed a practical session where they sorted and grouped objects according to the materials they are made from. We have set up a new 'recycling centre' in our tuff tray ready for the children to consolidate what they have learnt next week!
The children really enjoyed our PSHE lesson this week which was based on solving problems and working co-operatively! We watched a video called 'The Bridge' and discussed which characters were working well together to overcome the problem. We then went outside and the children had a go at working together to cross their own 'bridge'. We talked about ways that we could work together and the children had some fantastic ideas such as ' we can talk to each other', 'We can take it in turns' and 'we can say please can I get past?' You can see some pictures below!
