What an exciting whirlwind of a week! We have celebrated lots of important events this week such as anti-bullying week, Children in Need and nursery rhyme week!
This year's theme for anti-bullying week is 'one kind word' so on Monday, Year 1 discussed how we can be a kind friend and what to do if someone is not being kind. The Year 1 team were blown away by the responses of the class and how maturely they could talk about the subject. We also looked in detail at our schools ‘Anti-Bullying Policy’ and particularly paid attention to who could we speak to if we did not feel happy at school. The class then had to say how they were going to show an act of kindness this week and how it would make others as well as themselves feel.
This week has been world nursery rhyme week and we have celebrated this by singing some of our favourite nursery rhymes including: 'Wind the Bobbin Up', 'Incy Wincy Spider' and 'Down in the Jungle'. We also listened to our music of the week 'Ah Vous Dirai- Je Maman' which was composed by Mozart. The children recognised the melody and realised it had been used for the nursery rhymes 'Twinkle, Twinkle' and 'Ba, Ba Black Sheep'. Great listening skills year 1!
On Friday, it was children in need. The children had lots of fun wearing their yellow, spotty clothes and guessing the name of the bear. We also talked about the important message behind children in need and who we are raising money for and why. You can see some of the children's work below.
