Week 5

We have had a whole-school sustainability week this week and we have been so impressed by how enthusiastic year 1 have been when thinking about how we can protect and preserve our planet. The children have really engaged with this topic and came up with lots of ideas about what we could do as a class to support sustainability. We decided that we would choose two very special light monitors each week who have the responsibility to turn off the lights when we leave the classroom. The children also created some fantastic posters to encourage others to do the same!

In maths, we have been looking at how we can use a number line to support us with the skills we have learnt so far including ordering numbers, finding one more and one less and counting forwards and backwards within 10.

In history, we had an exciting delivery! The museum sent us a special box of toys but all the old and new toys had been jumbled up and they needed our help to sort them. We talked about how we know that toys are old by thinking about the material they are made from, their design and if they have any wear and tear. The children have produced some fantastic work and we were so impressed by the vocabulary they used.

Just a reminder that it is our trip to Abbey House Museum on Wednesday 12th. Please send your child in school uniform as normal and ensure they have a coat.

Have a lovely weekend!
