Wow, another amazing week in Year 1. The children are working really hard and been very busy collecting house points and gaining marbles for their jar. This week, we were so please that Year 1 gained the highest score in the number of house points awarded! For the past few weeks we have been second to Year 4! This week, we worked really hard and WON! The children were so excited! We are also very close to filling out marble jar! Hopefully, by Friday it may be full and the class can have a special treat before half term!
The children have finished making their models of clay animals (photos now added below) and have begun to paint them. Next week, we will also finish our dance in PE. We are planning to record the dance next Friday and will allow you access to it to watch their performance. This would normally have been performed during an 'Open Afternoon' but because of Covid-19, we are unable to invite you in. We still feel it is really important that the children have the opportunity to share things with you and we felt that recording it, it will allow the children to share something with you and for you feel a part of your child's learning.
Next Thursday, we are planning to have a 'science day'. The children will be carrying out different science investigations and develop their 'working scientifically' skills. We will be observing things closely, performing investigations and using our observations to suggest answers to questions.
Mrs Hesketh is very excited to be joining the Year 1 team after half term. Unfortunately, because of Covid-19, she is unable to visit school and come and meet the children in person before then. So, next Thursday, we have arranged to Mrs Hesketh to have a zoom meeting with the class! (Fingers crossed the technology and wi-fi works!) This will give the children the opportunity to meet her and ask her any questions before she starts teaching.
A message from Miss Hicks
Next week marks my last week with Year 1. After this, I will return to teaching Year 6 and working part-time. I would just like to say that your children are all amazing and it really has been a pleasure to teach them throughout Reception, Lockdown and into Year One. I have seen them grow both in confidence and in their learning, along with the way they apply themselves to everyday life in school. I would also like to thank you as parents, for all your support since last September. I will really miss teaching the children but hopefully, I will get a chance to teach them again in a few years time when they move into Year 6! Don't worry though, I will keep popping down and waving at all the children through the classroom door!!
Miss Thackray and Mrs Hesketh are both wonderful teachers and I know that the children are going to thoroughly enjoy the rest of the year with them :-)
