Year 1 have continued to amaze us this week with their effort and attitude to their learning. We are so proud of them!
This week, the children had a very special Christmas surprise. Mrs Shaw and Mrs Naylor set up a Christmas Grotto outside and the children had a wonderful time taking part in lots of different Christmas craft activities. The activities included crown making, biscuit decorating, listening to Christmas stories and having hot chocolate. It was such a lovely morning for the children and we were delighted that they could still take part in some festive activities. A massive thank you to Mrs Naylor and Mrs Shaw for organising this.
This week in DT, the children were tasked with becoming engineers to improve Mrs Hesketh's rocket design so that it would fly further. The children looked at pictures and videos of rockets and then set to work designing an improved version of the rocket. The children gave Mrs Hesketh two suggestions based on their research. They improved the design by adding a nose cone and fins. We then launched Mrs Hesketh's improved straw rocket to see if their ideas did make the rocket go further. The children were very excited to find that they did and our rocket shot across the classroom!
The children have also completed their 'Big Write' this week which was focussed around Christmas-themed pictures. The children worked really hard and the progress that they have made in their writing this term is really clear to see! They are super-stars!
We are really looking forward to all the Christmas craft activities that we have planned for our final week next week.
