Hello Year 3,
Welcome to the final half term of Year 3! We hope you all had a lovely break in the sunshine.
We are so proud of all the hard work you have been doing and we have really enjoyed reading emails, looking at work and seeing your gorgeous smiley faces on the photos you have been sending. Please keep sending us updates and if you have not had a look at the gallery of all the home learning, then please do. We update it every few days. If you have sent something in, which is not on the gallery, we may have just missed it out accidentally so just remind us.
After the holidays, I will be teaching Year 6 full time in school. I will be updating the website once a week. The learning will be available every Monday from 9am. I would still love to see and hear all the fabulous learning you are completing at home so please keep emailing me on the class email address (email@example.com) but it might take me a little longer to reply.
We hope you all have a lovely week!
Mr Elliot & Mrs Wood
Just to keep us all on our toes (again) this week the work on White Rose Maths is something we have already covered earlier in the lockdown period. The good news is that they have provided alternative lessons for this week. Please find a plan of this week’s lessons in the resources section at the bottom of this page. This will have links to the learning videos. The worksheets can also be found below.
Monday – Add 3-digit numbers
Tuesday – Subtract 3-digit numbers
Wednesday – Subtract 3-digit numbers
Thursday – Estimating
Friday – Friday Maths Challenge
There is no need to print most of the activities as answers and responses can be written straight into books or on any paper.
Sumdog - Complete the activities allocated on there.
BBC Bitesize – From this week White Rose Maths and BBC Bitesize run in line with each other. This means that every day, there’s a learning video on the White Rose page to watch and a link to that day’s BBC Bitesize page for more information and even more lesson content.
We are moving on from our class text, History Hackers: Roman Rescue. If you get chance, please continue to read the story and find out if Charlie and Tilda manage to get home and discover what really happened to Professor Howe.
This week, The National Academy are looking at writing an adventure story. In this week’s lessons you will cover a number of English objectives including: prediction, inference, fact retrieval, prepositions and writing your own adventure story. Have a go at completing each of the daily activities and don’t forget to send me your stories at the end of the week.
When you click on the link, all of the lessons from previous weeks are still on there, make sure that you only do the ones for this week, which are all titled "Story", these are at the bottom of the web-page.
This week’s spellings focus: words ending in the suffix -al
Practise these words three times and write them in sentences.
Reading – JK Rowling’s new children’s book
JK Rowling (the author of the Harry Potter novels) is releasing her new children’s book, The Ickabog, chapter by chapter over the next 7 weeks.
The most exciting part is that JK Rowling would like you to illustrate her new fairy tale story. Every day, she will be making suggestions for what you might like to draw. You can enter the official competition being run by her publishers, for the chance to have your artwork included in a printed version of the book due out later this year. She will be giving suggestions as to what to draw as you go along, but you should let your imagination run wild.
The book can be found here: https://www.theickabog.com/home/
Spellings – RWI (https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/)
For any extra spelling and reading work please visit Oxford Owl (Web address above) using the following log in details:
You will need to log in through the ‘My Class Login’ at the top of the webpage. Some of the resources are PDF documents but these don’t need to be printed off, the work can simple be completed on paper or in books.
