Week 4

This week we hosted our second parent event of the year which was focussed around our DT project on fruit kebabs. We were very impressed by how closely the children followed their designs and how they put their chopping and threading skills into action! We are certain that we have some budding chefs within the class! Thank you to everyone who came - the children really enjoyed it!

We continued our learning on Florence Nightingale by exploring what her most important achievements were and what people really thought about her at the time. The children were brilliant historians when I asked them how we could find the answer to this question.

" We can't ask people because they are dead now."

"We could read books."

"We could look at what they did in their diaries."

"There might be some newspapers where people said what they think."

We used 3 sources that were written by a soldier, a nurse and a doctor at Scutari hospital to help us consider what they thought about Florence. The children thoroughly enjoyed using drama to explore this further and develop their understanding that people, at the time, had different opinions of Florence.
