  • Young Voices 2019

Tue 15 Jan 2019 Mr Cook

On Monday 14th January, 30 children from Collingham School Choir took part in the ‘Young Voices 2019’ concert at Sheffield Arena. It was a long day for all the children having left school at 12.00pm and not returned until nearly 10.30pm. There was a three hour rehearsal during the afternoon before a two hour performance in front of thousands of enthusiastic parents who were undoubtedly full of pride.

Songs performed included Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’; ‘Any Dream Will Do’ from Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat; a mashup from the Disney movie ‘Moana’; and a spectacular medley from ‘The Greatest Showman’. The Young Voices choir were joined throughout by recognised singers that included Sharlene Hector from Basement Jaxx; Beau Dermott who was a finalist on Britian’s Got Talent; and Tony Hadley the frontman from 80s band Spandau Ballet. It was an unforgettable evening of singing with lots of fun and high-energy levels throughout. The children had such an amazing experience and clearly enjoyed themselves. They sang beautifully and with incredible confidence. Well done to everyone involved for all your hard work and for doing yourselves, your families and our school so proud.

A huge thank you must go to Mrs Meek, Mrs Southby and Mr Farnell for preparing the choir for this performance with such passion and dedication; Mrs Azimikorf for all of the administration involved to ensure we could participate in the first place and so the day went as smoothly as possible; and finally, Miss Hicks and Mrs Swift who stayed up well past their bedtimes to accompany me in looking after the children.

  • Visit from Alec Shelbrooke (MP)

    Fri 14 Dec 2018 P. Cook

    Visit from Alec Shelbrooke (MP)

This morning, we were visited by Mr Alec Shelbrooke (Conservative Member of Parliament for Elmet & Rothwell). His visit was to meet the Year 4 children in order to see what they had been learning about through their PSHE topic of democracy from earlier in the school year. The children had created their own political parties – including the Sensible Party and the Nature Party – and Mr Shelbrooke was shown the manifestos that the children had written in small groups. He was very impressed with the amount of discussion and debate that had gone into agreeing the intended aims and projects for each party. Following this, the children were told all about the life of an MP at Westminster and asked a range of questions about topics including defence, the House of Lords and how noisy the House of Commons can be!

As it was Christmas jumper day today, we were delighted to see that Mr Shelbrooke joined in the fun by sporting a rather festive cardigan. We were incredibly grateful for him taking the time to visit us and the children really enjoyed having the opportunity to discuss politics with a real MP.

  • We Shall Not Forget

Fri 09 Nov 2018 Mr Cook

    "We Shall Not Forget"

Over the past week, the children and staff in school have been busy making paper poppies to create a stunning display in the front entrance. Everyone has had an opportunity to contribute and the display is our school's contribution towards supporting the local commemorations to symbolise 100 years since the end of the First World War.

The sea of poppies really is quite a spectacle, I'm sure you will agree. So many parents, visitors and children have had such lovely things to say about the display already.

Making the poppies, has provided all of the children with a time to reflect on the many lives lost in this terrible war as well as others across the globe. It also allowed us all to consider how fortunate we are that none of us had to live through these terribly dark times in history.

This morning, we held a beautiful whole school Remembrance Assembly in the hall where groups of children from each year group had an opportunity to share poems and artwork relating to what they had learnt throughout the week. The work created was incredibly powerful and was a fitting tribute to the memories of all those who lost their lives.

The children observed a two-minute silence and this was done impeccably. The whole assembly was yet another example of what a credit the children are to both our school and your families.

  • A Harvest Thank You!

Wed 10 Oct 2018 Mr Cook

Thank you to everyone who made this morning's Harvest Celebration such a memorable occasion for the children. They thoroughly enjoyed performing their songs and poems for all in our school community. The positive comments from parents and grandparents were gratefully received and these have all been passed on to the children.

Also, a huge thank you for all of your generosity in sending in donations for St George's Crypt in Leeds and in the cash donations for this year's 'Heart & Mind' choices for school charities to support. The sheer amount of food, toiletries and clothing that you have sent in is absolutely staggering and will make a huge difference to those in need.

  • Harvest Celebration 2018

Tue 09 Oct 2018 Mr Cook

We are really looking forward to welcoming you into school tomorrow morning for our Harvest Celebration. Thank you to all those who have sent in non-perishable donations for St George's Crypt so far. We are extremely grateful for your generosity and these items will really make a huge difference to those in Leeds less fortunate than ourselves.

If you haven't had an opportunity to send something in as of yet, but you would like to do so, then please send these in to the classroom with your child tomorrow morning. Every donation - no matter how big or small - is really appreciated.

  • WVLP Update for Parents

Tue 09 Oct 2018 Mr Cook

It was a busy year for all of the schools in the Wharfe Valley Learning Partnership (WVLP) during 2017/18 and as a school we benefited tremendously from the collaboration between headteachers and individual year group staff.

On the link below, you will find a 'WVLP Update' leaflet for parents that provides details of all the initiatives that we were involved in last year.

  • Harvest Celebration

    Fri 21 Sep 2018

On Wednesday 10th October, we will be holding our annual Harvest Celebration at 9.20am in the school hall. Parents are more than welcome to attend this event and watch each class perform.

Our charity this year will once again be St George’s Crypt in Leeds who are extremely grateful for all donations received. They would very much welcome non-perishable food items as well as warm clothing – including hats, gloves, scarves and socks – and toiletries.

If you are able to support by making a donation to this worthy cause then please could you send these in with the children and they will be collected in their classrooms.

Thank you in advance for your kindness and support.

  • Astroturf (Phase 1) - COMPLETED

Fri 20 Apr 2018 Mr Cook
Today, we saw the completion of the first phase in having astroturf installed in replacement of the grassed areas at the front of school. The area alongside the pirate ship - and up to the front fence - has been finished as well as the small area with the storytelling chair. We are really pleased with the results and we think that both areas look fantastic.

Thank you to the Friends of Collingham School (FoCS) for their determination in raising the funds towards this project. All the PTA events that they put on - and the support from all our families who attend them - have made a massive contribution towards the costs. Without this help, it simply wouldn’t be possible to make improvements to the school grounds such as this.
