  • Leeds United star visits school

Fri 16 Mar 2018 Mr Cook

Yesterday, we were very fortunate to welcome Leeds United first team player, Caleb Ekuban, into our school. Caleb was invited to officially open our new playground/PE equipment. As part of Caleb’s visit, he took part in a question and answer with the whole school and the children certainly were not short of questions to ask as the children wanted to find out more about his training at Leeds, his favourite football moment, when he started playing football and much more. Caleb was very impressed with our children’s questions.

After the children had finished asking their questions, our School Sports Organisers and School Council accompanied our visitor and showed him our new KS2 Multi Use Games Area (MUGA). Caleb was amazed at the new equipment and hoped this would help with our goal of getting more children active during lessons and playtimes. Caleb’s last job was to cut the ribbon and officially open our new equipment. Thank you to Miss Thackray who organised this fantastic event.

  • Change to school opening time

    Thu 08 Mar 2018
Due to the unexpected snow this morning, we will aim to open school at 10.30am.  The roads have not been gritted and we do not want anyone to take any unnecessary risks.  We will keep you updated as the morning progresses.
  • School is open!

    Fri 02 Mar 2018

    Good morning everyone!

School is open today so please take care on the roads and paths.

Please use the cleared path through the KS1 playground.

    Thank you.

  • School Reopening - Friday 2nd March 2018

Thu 01 Mar 2018 Mr Cook

The weather conditions for our region seem to be improving after the heavy snow we have seen over the past 24 hours.

At this moment in time, I have every reason to believe that school will be open tomorrow - including Out of School Club. There does not appear to be any snow expected and we do have a clear pathway across the playground from the top gate to the school office.

Ice could be the potential problem, but we will ensure that this pathway is well gritted before school starts.

Please take care on your journeys whether by car or on foot and please do not rush. We do not want anyone taking any risks. The turning circle may not be in great condition so please be careful if dropping off.

If there are any unexpected issues that change the decision, we will of course update you as soon as possible by text and on the website, but for now we will be operating as normal.

It is our World Book Day non-uniform day tomorrow which the children will be looking forward to. We will continue with these plans, but please ensure that the children still have suitably warm clothing and appropriate footwear to accompany their outfits if they are dressing up.

Year 1 were supposed to be going on a walk around Collingham tomorrow afternoon, but this will now be postponed with a new date to be confirmed shortly.

    What a week!

Thank you all for your support and understanding. It has been hugely appreciated by us all.

Enjoy the rest of your evening.

    Mr Cook

  • School Closed - Thursday 1st March 2018

Wed 28 Feb 2018 Mr Cook

Due to the deteriorating weather conditions this evening and the forecast for more snow through the night, the difficult decision has been taken to close school on Thursday.

I wanted you to have as much notice as possible in order to give you time to put any arrangements you may need to make in place.

This wasn't a decision that was taken lightly, but I have to prioritise the safety of the children, parents and staff. There has been significant snowfall already in the past few hours and the forecasts have been accurate so far. On that basis, conditions are likely to be much worse than they were this morning and the surrounding roads very dangerous.

Thank you once again for your understanding and we will continue to keep you updated.

    Mr Cook

  • School Closure Update (9.10am)

    Wed 28 Feb 2018
School will be closing at 3.15pm today.  All children to be collected by 3.15pm as after school club will be closed and there will be no after school activities.
  • We are open (8.00am)

    Wed 28 Feb 2018

Despite the snow, we have enough teachers in school to remain open.

Please stay safe on the roads and get here when/if you can.

There will be no late marks to worry about.

Take care and wrap up warm.

    Mr Cook

  • Wintry Weather Conditions

Tue 27 Feb 2018 Mr Cook

With the inclement weather we are currently experiencing in this country, we are monitoring conditions throughout the day in order to make the right decisions about keeping school open and the children safe. We get regular updates from Leeds City Council, but these reflect the national forecasts from the Met Office.

The procedure is that if conditions deteriorated significantly - and a large proportion of the teaching staff were unable to get into school - then we would be forced to close. I would log this closure with Leeds City Council and this would then trigger a communication to the local radio stations. I would also send out a text message to parents by 8.15am. Conditions would need to be much worse than we are currently experiencing in order to take this course of action, although it can never be ruled out.

If conditions got significantly worse during the school day and we were required to send pupils and staff home, we would again send out text messages - and update the school website - in order to alert you that we require you to arrange for the safe collection of your children.

My aim is to keep school open whenever possible and it would be extreme circumstances that would force us to close.

    Spring can't come soon enough!

    Mr Cook

  • New KS2 Playground Multi Use Games Area (MUGA)

Sun 25 Feb 2018 Mr Cook

During half-term, we had a brand new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) installed on the KS2 playground. This was funded using a portion of our Sports Premium grant from the Government. We wanted to use the money to improve the outdoor learning environment and to provide a sporting legacy that the children of Collingham School could benefit from for many years to come.

The new MUGA consists of a pair of timber-framed structures that facilitate games of football, basketball and cricket. We also had a solar-powered stop-clock installed and had the playground lines remarked. The children have really enjoyed using this over the course of the week and we will ensure that all of the children in school have access to it.
