British Values

British Values include;

  • Democracy - I have a voice and listen carefully to others
  • The Rule Of Law - Follow school rules and know they are there to protect me
  • Individual Liberty - Make the right choices and take responsibility for my actions
  • Mutual Respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith - Understand and respect that not everyone is the same as me

We try and make the British Values relatable to Year 1 through reading books and using real life examples.

Democracy: I can choose what to play, I can choose who to play with, I can share my ideas, I can be myself

Books - Dracula Spectacular, Perfectly Normal, My Shadow is Pink

Rule of Law: We follow school rules, we listen to adults, we are kind and fair, we help keep each other safe

Books - Finn's Little Fibs, The Magic Crayon

Democracy: We put up our hand to share ideas, we listen to other people speaking, we take turns when speaking, we vote for a class story, we choose activities as a class, we vote for school leaders, we agree rules together

Books - Speak Up, Sofia Valdez Future Prez

Mutal Respect and Tolerance: We are kind to everyone, we use good manners, we care about people's feelings, we treat others how we want to be treated, its okay to be different, everyone belongs.

Books - Mixed, All are Welcome

These values are embedded throughout the curriculum in Year 1 and we focus on different values in each topic. We also explore these values during our Newsday Tuesday and Big Question Thursday collective worships.
