Maths

This term we will be covering:

 

  • Place Value: read, write, order and compare numbers up to 10,000,000 and determine the value of each digit. Children will learn about powers of 10 (times and divide by 10, 100 and 1000), rounding numbers and negative numbers.
  • Four Rules: perform mental and formal calculations of whole numbers and decimals in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division - applying to reasoning problems.  Children will also learn about factors, multiples, squared and cubed numbers and prime numbers up to 100.
  • BIDMAS/BODMAS: use knowledge of the order of operations to carry out calculations involving the four number operations. Children need to know the meanings of both as BODMAS is the old curriculum and BIDMAS is the new!
  • Fractions A: Equivalents and simplifying, fractions on a line, ordering and comparing fractions, mixed numbers and improper fractions, adding and subtracting fractions and multi-step problems.
  • Fractions B: Multiplying fractions by integers, multiplying fractions by fractions, dividing by integers, mixed questions with fractions, fractions of an amount, finding the whole.
  • Geometry – Position and Direction: One quadrant, four quadrants, translations and reflections.
