Please remember we do not expect any work to be 'handed in'.

PERSONALISED HOMEWORK

Please carry on working towards the targets on your child's personalised sheets. If you do not have a sheet or have any questions about the sheet please contact a member of the Y1 team. Sheets will be updated after the next assessment week. COMPLETION DATE: Ongoing

Cursive Writing

This week we have started to practice our joins. You should find a handwriting sheet in your child's reading record to practice horizontal joins. Please can you complete alongside your child to see if there are any particular joins they are finding tricky. If you notice anything in particular please pass this on to us.

NO COMPLETION DATE - ONGOING ACTIVITY.

Phonics

This week we have learned the 'ue' 'oe' and 'wh' sound.  I have added three extra activities in the document section below. For the 'ue' and 'oe' sound children need to roll the dice and say the word that matches their number. For the 'wh' sound children need to read the words and colour the real words in one colour and the alien words in another colour. COMPLETION DATE: n/a

Big Write

For the Big Write on Wednesday 29th January Year 1 will be retelling the story of Peace at Last which is one of our core texts. We will read the story as a class on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Please can you read or watch the story with your child and see if they sequence the key events after reading. Children will have the sequence pictures available to them during the write as well as key words. VIDEO OF PEACE AT LAST -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U9y35kWBvM

 COMPLETION DATE: 29.01.25

Maths

NUMBOTS CHALLENGE MODE - On Challenge Mode please can you go onto the Addition section and complete the Adding teen to single digit (within 20) activity. Also, on the Subtraction section please can you complete the single digit numbers from 2 digit numbers activity. I can access the data/results on my computer for this.

Maths homework this year will be focussed on our basic skills and NumBots. By the end of year 1 children need to be able to:

  • Say 1 more/less for numbers to 100
  • Count in 2s, 5s and 10s forwards and backwards (and from any given number)
  • Know doubles (up to 12) and halves (up to 24)
  • Know number bonds to 5,10 and 20

We have found these skills are best covered little but often. If you could find 5 minutes 3x a week to practise the above it would be greatly appreciated. If your child needs a number line, number square or manipulatives to help with this to begin with then that is absolutely fine. This is best done verbally as the aim is for rapid recall.

  • For one more/less it is just asking questions such as one more than 38 or one less than 45 (the number square will help with this)
  • Count in 2s, 5s and 10s - Use the number square to spot the pattern and then try without when confident

NUMBOTS - NumBots will continue this year and I will set challenges as well where appropriate. Please can you carry on completing your story record this week. Certificates will be handed out in assembly on Friday 31st January for anyone who has completed a level. COMPLETION DATE: 29.01.25

Any questions about maths, please ask a member of the Year 1 team.

For the 'ey' sound children need to roll the dice and say the word that matches their number. COMPLETION DATE: n/a

Big Write

For the Big Write on Wednesday 15th January Year 1 will be writing all about Winter. Our science lessons on Monday and Tuesday afternoon will be all about Winter so hopefully Y1 will have a good understanding. Please can you discuss Winter with your child (what the weather is like, what you would wear, any important celebrations, how the length of the day changes, what animals do, what activities you might do, what food/drink you might have). We would also like children to compare Winter to other seasons so they can use the suffix er/est. For example: Winter is the coldEST seasion or Winter is coldER than spring. Any help with thinking of these sentences would be appreciated. COMPLETION DATE: 15.01.25
