Physical Education – Real PE (Year 3)

What is Real PE?

Real PE is a child-centred Physical Education (PE) programme designed to ensure every child can engage, succeed, and grow—no matter their ability. It's fully aligned with the National Curriculum and meets expectations from Ofsted.

The approach is built around six key “cogs” of learning:

  • Physical

  • Personal

  • Social

  • Cognitive

  • Creative

  • Health and Fitness

These help children develop not just physically, but also emotionally and intellectually, making PE a holistic learning experience.

What Will Year 3 Cover with Real PE?

Children will work through a structured set of units designed to build their fundamental movement skills (FMS)—such as balance, agility, and coordination. These are practiced through fun, engaging games and activities that grow progressively in challenge.

Each session also weaves in the six “cogs,” supporting skills like teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, and physical wellbeing.

PE Days & Kit Reminder

For this half term our PE day will be Thursday.

Please make sure your child comes to school in their PE kit on this day and if they have long hair that it is tied back, and earrings are taken out or covered on those days. In addition to our formal PE lesson, children will be given other opportunities for physical activity throughout the week - such as active learning in other areas of the currirulum.
