Autumn 1
The children will begin their time at Collingham by learning about our school’s Christian Vision, our Christian Values and RESPECT Code. Each week, they will take part in either daily Class Worship or whole school Collective Worship. They will also begin to learn about Christianity, God, other faiths, prayer, Bible stories and so on, through our Worship sessions. We have a Spiritual Space and Calm Corner in our classroom, where the children can relax and have some quiet, reflective time using various resources such as Bible stories, olive crosses and fidget toys.
We will start our first specific unit of RE – God & Creation – at the end of the half term.
Enquiry Question: Why is the word 'God' so important to Christians?
Our RE learning will be all about The Creation Story, introduced to the children through the use of the characters Tom and Tessa. They will begin to learn about Christianity, God, the Bible and become familiar with some of the symbols used throughout school in our Understanding Christianity scheme. Following this, they will learn the sequence of The Creation Story and practise retelling it in groups using props. They will also explore the story through their play and through art activities.
