Summer 1
Enquiry Question: Which religious stories are special and why?
We will be having another RE Focus Week during the first week of this half term. The children will be listening to, re-enacting and retelling various stories from the Bible, as well as some from other faiths.
Spring 2
We will continue to find out about how Spring is celebrated around the world and in other faiths, including Holi and Nowruz.
Then we will be having an Easter focus week to learn about this important Christian celebration.
Spring 1
Our first week back will be a special RE focus week throughout school – Faith at Home. Pleased look out for information and photographs on Tapestry.
During the Spring term our unit is Celebrations and we will be finding about how the new year and Spring is celebrated around the world and in other faiths, with a focus on Lunar New Year, Holi (Hindu festival) and Nowruz (Iranian celebration).
Autumn 2
Our new RE unit is Incarnation, where the children will learn about the true meaning of Christmas from a Christian perspective. Our Enquiry Question is Why do Christians perform Nativity Plays at Christmas?
We will begin by finding out how much the children already know about this, plus talk about how they celebrate Christmas personally and why that is special to them. As they listen to, discuss and retell the Christmas story orally and through play, they will answer key questions such as Why do we celebrate Christmas? and Why is Jesus so important to Christians?
As always, we will keep you updated via Tapestry.
Autumn 1
The children will begin their time at Collingham by learning about our school’s Christian Vision, our Christian values and RESPECT Code. Each week, they will take part in either daily Class Worship or whole school Collective Worship. They will also begin to learn about Christianity, God, other faiths, prayer, Bible stories and so on, through our Worship sessions. We have a Spiritual Space in our classroom, where the children might choose to make or take a phone call from God on our special telephone or just relax and have some quiet, reflective time.
We will start our first specific unit of RE – God & Creation – at the end of the half term.
Our RE learning will be all about The Creation Story, introduced to the children through the use of the characters Tom and Tessa. They will begin to learn about Christianity, God, the Bible and become familiar with some of the symbols used throughout school in our Understanding Christianity scheme. Following this, they will learn the sequence of The Creation Story and practise retelling it in groups using props. They will also explore the story through their play and through art activities.
