This week, we began our first art pathway of the year. This pathway has a drawing focus so we began by understanding that drawing is when artists make a mark on any surface. We explored the spiral shape using different drawing tools such as: pencils, charcoal and pens. The children investigated drawing tight spirals and loose spirals. What would a quiet spiral look like? What would a loud spiral look like? Can you draw an angry spiral? The children reflected on which drawing tool they liked using.
Nell - I liked the blue pen because it was more colourful.
Edon - The charcoal was a bit scratchy but I still liked it.
Scarlett - I like using the pen because it is smooth.
In maths, we have been focusing on subtracting numbers within 10. We found how many are left by physically taking objects away. The children listened to a subtraction story and represented this using counters to find how many would be left. They completed a part-whole model and wrote a number sentence to represent the story.
