This week, in maths, we represented numbers using part-whole models. The children chose a number card as their ‘whole’ and then used cubes and counters to explore different ways of splitting the whole into parts. They used the following stem sentences to describe their part-whole model:
The whole is ......
...... is a part and ..... is a part.
The children were so confident with this that they even moved onto part-whole models with 3 parts. What marvellous maths!
Our key question in History this week was: How can we tell if toys are old?
We thought about 3 different ways:
The children became toy detectives and worked to match the vocabulary to the toy. Then they used this to decide whether the toy was old or new. We were blown away by the deep discussions that the children were having and by how well they acquired new vocabulary.
