Reception are on fire!

Reception have been working on their Call to Action plan. Together, they organised a very successful toy sale (thank you for your support!) to raise money to buy litter pickers to enable them to take positive action in looking after our world. Last weekend, the children began taking the litter pickers home on a rota, using their free time to litter pick in their local area. All the children are super excited and can't wait for their turn to do their little bit to save our world.

Following on from looking after the chicks, we have continued to learn about other farm animals - making our very own information book. The children are growing much more confident when writing on their own during Big Writing and our daily RWI sessions - with some also writing independently in the areas of provision. We absolutely love this! We were also very impressed with their amazing chick projects! Again, thanks for your support with these.

The children have been absolutely on fire during our Maths lessons! They are becoming so confident with number bonds to 10, doubling numbers, finding odd and even numbers and even finding money totals - a really tricky skill!

Next week, our learning will be based around one of our favourite stories - We're Going on a Bear Hunt! The children will create, illustrate and perform their own versions - We're Going on a Chick Hunt! We are so excited to continue this learning on our trip to Skelton Grange on Thursday!

Have a fab weekend!

A fantastic first week back! 😊

Firstly, well done to everyone who completed some form of Easter holiday diary – we have really enjoyed looking at them!

This week was another RE focus week in Reception, answering the enquiry question Which religious stories are special and why? We recapped the many Bible stories that the children already know (7 - impressive! Now 11!) and discussed the Old and New Testament, linking them to the birth of Jesus.

The children have listened to, sequenced and written about new stories – Jonah and the Whale and Jesus heals the Blind Man. They made excellent links to our RESPECT Code during all this learning.

We also focused on a special story from another faith – Rama and Sita, Hinduism – to expand the children’s knowledge and understanding of other faiths and beliefs. The children loved this story and blew our socks off with their dramatic performances of the story – wow!

In Maths, it’s been all about the number 10! Try asking your child if they can show or tell you all the numbers bonds e.g. 10 + 0, 9 +1, 8 + 2 etc.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

The Reception Team 😊
