ASSESSMENT Week

You should have received an email earlier in the week about assessments next week. I have reattached to the documents section below as well as Jack and the Beanstalk information COMPLETION DATE: 16-20.06.25

Big Write

For the Big Write on Wednesday 18th June Year 1 will be retelling the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. Please could you read and sequence the story with your child. I have attached a PowerPoint of the story underneath in case you do not have the story at home. We will read the story in class before the write. Children WILL have the sequence pictures available to them for the write and a word mat to support. COMPLETION DATE:18.06.25

Maths

ARITHMETIC - This half term we can are going to continue to have a real focus on arithmetic (especially missing number questions). In the documents section I have added a sheet for your child to practice. They can have a numberline with them to complete the sheet if it is helpful. Please can your child have a go independently and then you can see where they may need more help. Please talk to a member of the Y1 team if you have any questions about this. 

Maths homework this year will be focussed on our basic skills and NumBots. By the end of year 1 children need to be able to:

• Say 1 more/less for numbers to 100
• Count in 2s, 5s and 10s forwards and backwards (and from any given number)
• Know doubles (up to 12) and halves (up to 24)
• Know number bonds to 5,10 and 20 

We have found these skills are best covered little but often. If you could find 5 minutes 3x a week to practise the above it would be greatly appreciated. If your child needs a number line, number square or manipulatives to help with this to begin with then that is absolutely fine. This is best done verbally as the aim is for rapid recall.

• For one more/less it is just asking questions such as one more than 38 or one less than 45 (the number square will help with this)
• Count in 2s, 5s and 10s - Use the number square to spot the pattern and then try without when confident

NUMBOTS - NumBots will continue this year and I will set challenges as well where appropriate. Please can you carry on completing your story record this week. Certificates will be handed out on Friday 20th June for anyone who has completed a level. COMPLETION DATE: 20.06.25

Please continue with this. We have found these skills are best covered little but often. If you could find 5 minutes 3x a week to practise the above it would be greatly appreciated. ALSO PLEASE REMEMBER TO KEEP WORKING ON THE NUMBER BONDS WITHIN 10, thank you. COMPLETION DATE: Ongoing 

Phonics

Next week I will be completing the phonics screen checks on Monday and Tuesday morning (9th & 10th June). Please look over the sounds with your child and if you have time complete any of the previous phonics screens (these can be found in the summer 1 homework section). COMPLETION DATE: Ongoing
