Week 2

DT

This week, we considered which type of mechanism might be the most suitable for our moving page.

Elodie - I think a lever because we could make his legs move.

Ava - I think a slider because we could make the Gingerbread Man run away.

Freddie - I think a slider too because he could run in a straight line.

The children thought about the skills they might need to produce a smooth mechanism. We practised these skills to make a mock-up of a sliding mechanism. We were so impressed by how much care the children took when colouring and cutting! Well done year 1 - we can’t wait to see how you apply these skills to making our final product.

Science

This week, In science, we learnt about the parts of a tree. We also learnt about the difference between evergreen and deciduous trees and conducted an investigation to find out which type of tree was the most common in our school grounds. The children enjoyed identifying the trees on our school grounds and completing tally charts to record our results. It was a lovely afternoon in the sunshine!
